What am I going to eat? And the dogs?

Let’s be clear: I’m not going to eat the dogs!
In fact, I have little idea what I’m going to eat. Every time the thought comes into my head (or I’m asked the question), my mind just answers: carrots.
I’m partly vegetarian, however, I eat chicken, fish & chips and salmon. I enjoy a type of vegetable keto diet, high on fats and vegetables.
My normal diet includes lots of leafy vegetables, which of course, I don’t be able to carry with me, as they won’t stay fresh.
Hopefully I will be near shops during certain stages of my walk, and I’ll be able to buy extra food and snacks for myself, and the dogs.
So, for snacks and food for my travels, I’m going to be eating:
- Nuts, especially almonds
- Bananas
- Carrots (and other veg that don’t need packaging so as not to have much waste)
- In terms of extra supplements, I take Berocca, and sometimes vitamin B12.
I hope to eat one pub meal a day. Depending where I am on my journey, I may not always have interesting meals. Although in my area in the South West, the pubs offer a good choice of meals for vegetarians, I hoping that it continues as I move away from the South. Statistics show that London and the south do have more vegetarian restaurants than most other areas. I’m hoping that things have improved in the rest of the UK, and that the only choice is risotto, or stuffed mushrooms, or if you’re lucky, nut roast.
Interestingly, it isn’t just vegetarians that have issues with the meals on offer. A growing number of people in the UK suffer from food allergies/intolerances, and therefore can’t eat certain foods – often dairy, or nuts.
Sometimes, when pubs and restaurants aren’t as careful as they should be they add vegetable quiches as an option, ‘forgetting’ that they have used eggs and dairy to make it, which of course as well as being a common intolerance or allergy, if people are vegan, they also can’t eat those foods. The number of vegetarians in the UK is growing all the time.
I hope I’m going to be lucky and find some great pub food!
Food for the dogs: I’m carrying about 2kg of dog food and replenishing on the way. They get about 400g a day so I need to buy new every two days.
